As a painfully introverted individual, approaching and getting to know strangers was never a possibility for me. Staying within my comfort zone has never promoted any creative growth, with that in mind, I sought to photograph the scariest thing of all: strangers. Each image was captured in black and white at the locations in which I first encountered the individuals. They were tasked with the simple, yet broad, question of “What’s the Dream?”. Some knew immediately, and others needed time to reflect on what their dream really is. Whether it be the dream for themselves, their family, community, or the world as a whole, each answer reflected how different people within different communities view life. Each person’s eyes and smiles capture their stories. The spontaneity of the interaction made the images and answers more genuine. With the addition of their handwriting, viewers can make more of a connection to each “stranger” and begin to ask themselves the very same question. With that, I ask you: “What’s the Dream?”.
